BCCI is expected to announce India’s squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 next week, most likely on August 19 or 20, according to media sources.
Team selectors and management have already started discussions, focusing mainly on player fitness and recent performances. The final list will be confirmed only after all the shortlisted players pass their fitness tests.
Sources say that Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sai Sudharsan, and KL Rahul may not make the cut this time. However, Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson are almost certain to be included in the squad.
One of the biggest decisions the selectors will have to make is about Shubman Gill. While he is currently the Test team captain, his outstanding performance in the recent Test series against England puts him in strong contention for the T20 team as well.
Meanwhile, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah will only be picked if he gets full medical clearance.
The Asia Cup 2025 is set to kick off on September 9, with Afghanistan facing Hong Kong in the first match of Group B. The tournament features eight teams, divided into two groups:
Group A: India, Pakistan, UAE, Oman
Group B: Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Hong Kong
Pakistan will play their first match against Oman on September 12, followed by a highly anticipated match against India on September 14. They’ll finish their group stage with a game against UAE on September 17.
