Islamabad: In a firm and calculated response to a wave of deadly terrorist attacks, Pakistan has conducted precision strikes on seven terrorist camps and hideouts operating along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced early Sunday.
According to the official statement, the targets included facilities linked to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) referred to by the state as Fitna al Khawarij (FAK) as well as affiliates of the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP). The operation was described as intelligence-based and selectively executed to eliminate imminent threats.
The action follows a series of brutal suicide bombings inside Pakistan, including attacks on an Imam Bargah in Islamabad and separate incidents in Bajaur and Bannu. Another tragic bombing was reported in Bannu during the holy month of Ramadan, further intensifying public outrage and security concerns.
The government stated it has “conclusive evidence” that the attacks were orchestrated by Afghanistan-based militant leadership and handlers. Responsibility for several of the incidents was reportedly claimed by Afghanistan-based elements of the TTP and ISKP, reinforcing Islamabad’s longstanding concerns about the use of Afghan soil for cross-border terrorism.
Officials emphasized that Pakistan has repeatedly urged the Afghan Taliban authorities to take verifiable and concrete steps to dismantle terrorist sanctuaries operating from their territory. However, Islamabad maintains that these calls have not been met with meaningful or sustained action.
“Pakistan has always strived for regional peace and stability,” the statement noted, “but the safety and security of our citizens remains our foremost priority.” The strikes were described as a necessary and proportionate response to protect the country’s sovereignty and its people from continued cross-border aggression.
Pakistan has also called on the interim Afghan authorities to honor their commitments under the Doha Agreement, which obliges them to prevent the use of Afghan territory against other nations. Islamabad urged the international community to play a responsible role in ensuring that Afghanistan does not become a safe haven for terrorist organizations threatening regional and global security.
Security analysts say the latest operation underscores Pakistan’s resolve to defend its borders and eliminate terrorist threats, particularly in light of repeated failures by Afghan authorities to curb militant activities on their soil.
