India defeated Pakistan by 6 wickets in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 match on February 23. Virat Kohli’s maiden hundred in the Champions Trophy helped India to complete the chase of 242 runs in 42.3 overs. Pakistan have lost two consecutive matches in the tournament, with the first defeat coming against New Zealand at home. They have 0 points after two matches and are last in the Group A points table.
Despite their defeats, Pakistan are still in the race to qualify for the semi-finals. The Men in Green will have a chance to finish among the two teams if Bangladesh beat New Zealand in the sixth match of the tournament on February 24, Pakistan thump Bangladesh on (February 27), and India go past New Zealand on March 2. In that case, India will top the group with six points, and Pakistan, Bangladesh, and New Zealand will finish with 2 points each.
The team with a better run rate will finish second in the points table, and Pakistan will have a chance to play the knockout match.
But if the Kiwis beat Bangladesh, then Pakistan and Bangladesh will be eliminated from the first round of the Champions Trophy 2025. If the match between New Zealand and Bangladesh ends without a result, then Pakistan’s Champions Trophy campaign will also come to an end.
Australia are the only team to defend the Champions Trophy title. They won the tournament in 2006 and 2009.
