SAHIWAL: After the pair sought refuge at one of the suspects’ outhouses in 6/14-L village of Chichawatni tehsil, Kasowal police have charged three men with gang raping their newlywed friend’s wife.
Amjad Hussain, the house officer (SHO) of the Kasowal Police station, said Dawn that two of the suspects had been taken into custody and that an inquiry had begun.
According to police reports, Iqbal, who lives in Forest Colony, Block No. 2, Chichawatni, entered into a love marriage with a woman named “A” at the Tehsil Courts on December 7 following their elopement.
The couple filed their Nikahnama with the relevant government agency.
The pair followed their arrangement and spent two nights at Iqbal’s buddy “S” outhouse in 6/14-L village.
In order for her parents to track out the outhouse and apprehend the couple, “S” asked Iqbal to move his wife to the home of their mutual friend “N” on Sunday. Iqbal accepted the recommendation and was instructed to spend the time at the outhouse. Iqbal was likewise confined to a chamber in the outhouse by “S.”
But after relocating the victim, “S,” “N,” and another suspect, “M,” gang-raped her and threatened to kill her if she didn’t speak.
Iqbal was released from the outhouse by his father and uncle in the meantime.
They all proceeded to “N’s” house after Iqbal told them the whole tale, where they learned of “A’s” predicament.
After Iqbal brought the incident to the attention of Kasowal police, the three suspects were charged with gang rape under Section 375A.
Police are also looking into Iqbal’s decision to leave his wife at his friend’s residence without telling his family, SHO Amjad informed Dawn.
