PESHAWAR: According to sources who spoke to Dawn, an operation in the Kulachi tehsil of the Dera Ismail Khan area on Thursday resulted in the martyrdom of a soldier and the deaths of ten terrorists.
Sources claimed that security forces carried out an intelligence-based operation on the supposed presence of terrorists in the Kiri Malang area, despite the lack of formal word from the military.
One of the security personnel accepted martyrdom during a gunfight. At the time of publication, the operation was still in progress.
Local police confirmed to Dawn on Thursday that militants have raised their flag on an abandoned police post building in Bannu.
According to police officials, a picture of a white flag being raised atop the building surfaced on social media, although it was not apparent which party the flag belonged to.
The Ahmadzai Police Station is in charge of the Barganto area, but the police post there was abandoned three months ago, the officials noted.
Since militants had previously attacked police checkpoints, their presence in the Wazir subdivision was well known.
Earlier this year, terrorists with heavy weapons attacked a police post in the Bargantoo area. However, police officers stationed at the checkpoint repulsed the attempt.

Unknown armed men attacked the Rocha checkpoint on the Wazir subdivision’s border with North Waziristan in November 2024, capturing seven police officers.
After the police conducted raids at the kidnappers’ potential hiding places and engaged local tribal elders in negotiations with them, the officers were eventually found.
Police also reported that they had thwarted a militant attack on the Kinger Bridge police checkpoint in Bannu at midnight on Thursday.
The officers stationed at the checkpoint “fought bravely and foiled the attack,” according to a police spokesperson.
He asserted that despite the militants’ use of both light and heavy weaponry, they were forced to retreat by the police’s efficient response.
The police officers stationed there were on full alert and equipped to stop terrorist strikes.
Army officers, District Police Officer Ziauddin Ahmed, and Regional Police Officer (RPO) Imran Shahid visited the police checkpoint and praised the officers for their courage.
On night duty, RPO Shahid instructed the officers to stay vigilant and watch for any activity by suspected militants.
In the event of any suspected movement, he ordered swift response.
