RAWALPINDI: Despite the police’s claims that the crime rate has decreased by 36% since 2023, locals still feel uneasy about going to public areas and shopping malls.
Data from Police Helpline 15 indicates that property offenses have significantly decreased this year, down 23%.
The number of major instances, such as murders, decreased by 2 percent this year. In 2024, there were 292 recorded murders, compared to 285 in 2023.
Similarly, there were only six blind murder cases reported in 2024 as opposed to 10 incidents the previous year, marking a record 67 percent drop in cases.
According to police data, there were three kidnapping-for-ransom cases this year as opposed to nine the previous year.
While the accused in every case were brought to justice, there was a 65 percent drop in robbery-murder cases over the prior year.
However, only 25 incidents of dacoity with murder were documented in 2024, compared to 33 occurrences in 2023.
There were 31 dacoity incidents reported in 2023 and 25 robbery cases in 2024, representing a 24 percent and 67 percent drop, respectively, from the previous year.
Over 2,400 drug dealers were
detained this year, according to statistics.
According to the police, automobile snatching was totally under control in the final four months of this year, and cases of vehicle snatching were down 50% from the previous year.
According to police, there were 2,806 robberies of all kinds in 2024, down from 4,689 the previous year.
Since 743 motorcycles were stolen in 2023 and 554 in 2024, there was a 34 percent drop in motorcycle snatching instances compared to the previous year.
The number of instances related to motorcycle and car thefts decreased by 48 and 86 percent, respectively.
In 2023, 573 automobiles were stolen, while in 2024, 351 cars were stolen. Similarly, only 5,343 motorcycles were stolen in 2024, compared to 7,746 in 2023.
Compared to 167 other automobiles in 2024, 390 other vehicles were stolen in 2023.
891 suspects were taken into custody.
This year, the police apprehended 891 people from 366 gangs, and they retrieved almost 1,500 stolen motorcycles, 110 cars, and commodities valued at Rs 250 million.
According to police figures, nearly 2,400 drug dealers were taken into custody, and products valued at Rs 600 million were found.
About 35 maunds (40 lb) of hashish, over 50 kg of heroin, over 20 kg of opium, 5.5 kg of ice, and over 15,000 liters of alcohol were found on the accused in 2,497 cases during the raid on drug dealers.
According to police records, the operation against illicit weapons resulted in 1667 cases being lodged and 1673 accused people being arrested. Sixty-four Kalashnikovs, more than 2,100 pistols, 108 rifles, and thousands of rounds were allegedly found among the accused.
