According to authorities, a four-year-old was killed in another heavy vehicle collision in Karachi on Saturday.
According to hospital records, the city has recently seen an increase in traffic accidents, particularly involving dumpers and water tankers, which resulted in 4,879 injuries and over 500 fatalities in 2024.
Following demonstrations over the deaths of civilians, the provincial administration of Karachi banned the movement of heavy vehicles during the day and required them to get a vehicle fitness certificate.
Imran Saad, the House Officer (SHO) of the Baldia police station, stated today that a four-year-old boy was murdered after a water truck ran over him while he was playing on an Abidabad road.
According to SHO Saad, the water tanker was seized, but the driver was able to flee the scene.
He went on to say that the residents were incensed by the tragedy and attempted to destroy the tanker, but the cops stopped them.

In an effort to promote safe and responsible driving, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Tuesday directed Karachi’s police and transportation authorities to randomly test heavy vehicle drivers for drugs.
According to civil society members and rights advocates, the state has not done enough to protect human rights, as evidenced by the rising incidence of deadly traffic accidents in the city and the inadequate effectiveness of traffic law enforcement.
