Pakistan marked the 60th Defence and Martyrs’ Day with salutes, ceremonies, and tributes to the armed forces and citizens who defended the nation on September 6.
Islamabad: On the 60th Defence and Martyrs’ Day, Pakistan’s civilian and military leadership paid glowing tributes to the martyrs, ghazis, and resilient citizens whose courage and sacrifices have safeguarded the nation’s sovereignty for decades.
The commemorations coincided with the blessed occasion of Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH) and began with a 31-gun salute in Islamabad and similar ceremonies in provincial capitals.
Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf, and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber led the nation in remembering its heroes.
In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said September 6 symbolises the “unflinching resolve and unshakeable spirit of the Pakistani nation.”
“On this historic day, our brave soldiers, with the support of the nation, stood like an insurmountable wall against aggression, leaving an indelible message that a united nation can never be defeated,” ISPR.
The armed forces reaffirmed their commitment to defend the homeland against all threats and pledged support for victims of ongoing floods, promising a decisive response to any attempt to disrupt peace.
In Karachi, a solemn guard-changing ceremony was held at Mazar-e-Quaid, where a contingent from the PAF Academy Asghar Khan assumed duties. The ceremony was attended by Air Vice Marshal Shahryar Khan as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, Air Vice Marshal Shahryar Khan said:
“Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos reminds us of September 6, but next time the score won’t stop at 6-0, it will be 60-0.”
Across Pakistan, prayers, ceremonies, and remembrance events honoured the martyrs and highlighted the enduring legacy of sacrifice and resilience that defines Defence Day.
