Karachi: The city of Karachi has been engulfed by an intense heatwave, with the suspension of sea breeze raising serious concerns of potential heatstroke. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued an advisory urging citizens to take precautionary measures as temperatures are expected to soar above 40°C.
Weather conditions in Karachi have turned extremely hot and dry starting today. The PMD reports that sea breezes have come to a complete halt, while the humidity level has been recorded at 61 percent. Under these circumstances, the risk of heatstroke is significantly increased, prompting officials to advise the public to stay hydrated, avoid unnecessary outdoor activities, and take necessary heat protection measures.
The PMD further stated that sea breezes may partially resume during evening hours. However, from today onward, hot and dry winds from the southeast are expected to blow across the city at speeds ranging between 25 to 35 kilometers per hour. The sky is forecasted to remain clear throughout the day with no chance of rainfall.
Meanwhile, the Met Office has predicted hot and dry weather for most parts of the country. In the plains, extreme heat is likely to persist.
In Islamabad, the weather will remain hot and dry during the day, with a chance of dust storms and rain in the evening or at night. Hailstorms may also occur at a few locations.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is also facing high temperatures, although rainfall is expected in areas such as Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Haripur, Chitral, and Dir.
In Punjab, the heatwave continues with expected rainfall later in the day or night in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mianwali, Khushab, Bhakkar, Sargodha, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, and Gujrat, among other regions.
Rain is also likely in Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Sheikhupura, Lahore, Okara, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Bahawalnagar, and Bahawalpur.
In Sindh and Balochistan, most districts are expected to experience extremely hot and dry conditions, while parts of Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan may see thunderstorms and rainfall accompanied by gusty winds.
The Meteorological Department continues to monitor the situation closely and advises residents to stay updated through official channels.
