JERUSALEM/GENEVA: Houthi media reported that three individuals were killed when Israel bombed several locations connected to the Houthi movement in Yemen on Thursday, including Sanaa International Airport.
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director of the World Health Organization, claimed that he was on the verge of boarding an aircraft at the airport when it was attacked. He added in a statement that one of the plane’s crew members was hurt.
Along with the airport, the Israeli military reported that it also damaged military facilities at the ports of Hodeidah, Salif, and Ras Kanatib on Yemen’s west coast. Additionally, it targeted the nation’s power plants in Ras Kanatib and Hezyaz.
The Israeli military’s campaign against Hezbollah forces in southern Lebanon and its destruction of the majority of the Syrian army’s strategic weapons have strengthened the prime minister at home.
Following the attacks, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that Israel will continue its mission until it is completed: “We are determined to sever this terror arm of Iran’s axis.” Houthi-run Al Masirah TV reported that two people were killed in the strikes on the airport, one was killed in the port hits, and eleven others were wounded in the attacks.
The World Health Organization chief says he is safe after the bombardment of Sanaa airport.
Al Masirah TV also reported on the Israeli attacks on a power plant and the Hodeidah airport. Tedros claimed to have visited Yemen to evaluate the humanitarian situation there and to arrange the release of arrested UN staff members. “The airport experienced aerial bombardment just as we were ready to board our flight from Sanaa. In a statement, he said, “One of our planes’ crew members was injured.”
He said he and his coworkers were safe but that “the runway, the departure lounge only a few meters from where we were, and the air traffic control tower were damaged.” Israel did not immediately comment on the event.
International shipping lines have been hampered by Houthi strikes for more than a year, forcing businesses to reroute to longer and more costly journeys, which has increased concerns about global inflation. According to Israel’s UN Ambassador Danny Danon, the UN Security Council is scheduled to convene on Monday to discuss the Houthi attacks against Israel.
14 people were hurt after Israel’s military failed to stop a Yemeni missile that fell in the Tel Aviv-Jaffa region on Saturday.
