During an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Timergara neighborhood of Lower Dir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, security forces killed two terrorists, including a “high-value target,” the military’s media wing reported on Friday.
After the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) broke off its ceasefire with the government in November 2022, there has been a surge in terrorist activity in Pakistan during the previous year, particularly in KP and Balochistan.
Security forces conducted the IBO on the evening of April 10–11 in response to the reported presence of Khawarij, according to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The state refers to the outlawed TTP as Fitna Al Khawarij.
“[Our] own troops surrounded and effectively engaged the khawarij location during the conduct of operation, and after an intense fire exchange, two khawarij, including a high value target Kharji Hafeezullah [alias] Kochwan, were sent to hell,” the statement read.
“Involved in numerous terrorist activities against the security forces as well as the innocent civilians,” it further stated, was Kharji Hafeezullah.
According to the ISPR, the government had set head money of Rs10 million on him and law enforcement agencies (LEAs) were very interested in him.
“[The] security forces of Pakistan are determined to wipe out the menace of terrorism from the country,” the statement continued, adding that a “sanitization operation” was underway to eradicate any remaining militants in the region.
