Islamabad: A message shared on the official ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) account of imprisoned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday urged the public to prepare for a nationwide protest movement.
According to a report published by Dawn, the post came a day after Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, suggested a “give and take” formula for his release.
While Imran Khan does not have direct access to social media from jail, PTI has yet to clarify who currently operates his official account.
The post called on supporters to get ready for a mass protest campaign set to begin soon, expressing serious concerns over Khan’s treatment in Adiala Jail. It accused the authorities of denying him basic human rights.
The statement read: “Under jail regulations, I am entitled to a 30 minute weekly meeting with my wife, Bushra Bibi. However, I have not been allowed to see her for several days now. Today’s scheduled meeting was also cancelled. Bushra Bibi has been imprisoned for the past 13 months solely to mentally torture me, despite no charges being proven against her.”
Imran Khan further wrote: “They can do whatever they want I will not bow down to their oppression, nor will I enter into any deal.”
He also disclosed that he has instructed his lawyer, Salman Akram Raja, to file a contempt of court petition in the High Court against jail authorities and to approach the Supreme Court over the violation of his fundamental rights.
Reiterating his stance, Khan concluded the post by telling the nation: “You all must be ready a nationwide protest movement will begin soon.”
This development adds to the growing political tension in Pakistan as PTI supporters await further direction amid Khan’s continued incarceration.
