How would you describe your Google search history in 2024? Were you occupied with some lighthearted “peach iced tea” searches, or did you Google Arshad Nadeem a million times like we did?
Were you club Ishq Murshid, or did you add to the Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum hype? Did the details of Mirzapur Season 3 keep you occupied, or did Heeramandi make you laugh so much that you had to search for memes?
We’re here to reveal what Google has been keeping track of, regardless of what you’ve been looking for.
The results of Google’s Year in Search 2024 show the top searches made by Pakistanis this year. It should come as no surprise that this year we were all addicted to our screens—and Google—for sports, entertainment, cuisine, and technology.
As usual, search trends were dominated by cricket, with the ICC T20 World Cup drawing national attention. PSL 2024 schedule and matchup searches were very common, as were searches for well-known players like Sajid Khan and Shoaib Malik.
After winning the first gold medal for Pakistan in over thirty years, Olympic gold winner Arshad Nadeem also garnered a lot of interest from Pakistani netizens.
Intricate searches were also conducted for Indian business magnate Mukesh Ambani, social media influencers Hareem Shah and Minahil Malik, and media celebrities Sana Javed and Zoya Nasir.
In Pakistan’s digital landscape, entertainment also played a significant role. Searches for episodes like Ishq Murshid and Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum demonstrated the dramas’ ongoing appeal.
Along with the highly anticipated Mirzapur Season 3 and the reality show Bigg Boss, buzz was also created by Bollywood movies including Animal, Dunki, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, and Stree 2.
In addition to entertainment, Pakistanis used Google to get a taste of local specialties like malpura and tawa kaleji, as well as recipes for dishes like banana bread and creamy spaghetti.
Along with seasonal beverages like peach iced tea, there were also a lot of searches for quick snacks like egg noodles and garlic toast.
In terms of technology, Pakistanis showed a strong interest in AI tools by conducting thorough searches for Remaker AI and Gemini. Demands for the newest smartphones, such as those made by Apple, Vivo, Redmi, and Infinix, were also very high.
In keeping with the election year, “how to” searches turned up questions regarding polling places and how to prolong the life of flowers. The most-searched list also included parenting advice, namely on how to educate four-year-olds to share.
A Pakistan that is both firmly grounded in its customs and enthusiastically embracing the opportunities presented by the digital age is revealed by this year’s Year in Search. Google is being used by Pakistanis to explore their passions, engage with their culture, and create their future in a variety of settings, including the kitchen, the silver screen, and the cricket pitch. Google’s Country Director for Pakistan, Farhan Qureshi, stated, “AI has been crucial in reimagining what Search can do, and we’re looking forward to expanding on our capabilities to help Pakistanis discover more of the web and the world around them.”
