According to local media and authorities, a residential building collapsed on the outskirts of New Delhi on Saturday, killing at least 11 people, including three children.
Rescue crews spent the day searching through the debris after the early-morning event in the city’s northeastern neighborhood, which is primarily populated by migrant laborers.
Eleven individuals were rescued and transferred to a hospital, but eleven others were declared dead, according to the NDTV station. According to the network, five people were still receiving care.
Narendra Modi, the prime minister of India, expressed his sadness for the deaths.
Modi’s office wrote on X, “Sincere condolences to those who have lost their loved ones.” “I hope the injured get better soon.”

The deaths of several individuals, including women and children, are “very sad,” according to President Droupadi Murmu, who resides in her official residence only 20 kilometers from the scene.
For the first time in nearly thirty years, Modi’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party won the state election in Delhi.
It was not immediately clear what caused the collapse.
Delhi minister Kapil Mishra blamed corruption in the municipal government — governed by the rival Aam Aadmi Party to which former CM Arvind Kejriwal belonged — for similar building collapses, saying on X: “Construction of such illegal buildings is going on in full swing.”
“All of these illegal buildings need to be surveyed, and they need to be strictly dealt with,” he continued.
The four-story building “came crashing down like a stack of cards,” according to local media accounts.
In India, unauthorized buildings that house migrant laborers are popular in large towns, and building collapses are regular.
