On Tuesday evening, Abbottabad police detained two guys and confiscated their automobile after a woman complained of harassment on her Facebook wall and included a picture of the two suspects sitting in the car.
According to a 2023 report by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), despite advancements in education, many women in the nation, across all age groups and social classes, still experience violence and sexual, mental, and physical abuse.
The increasing frequency of these incidents demonstrates that society is still not doing enough to actively protect women.
A first information report (FIR) was filed against the accused at the Mirpur police station on Wednesday in accordance with Sections 294 (any act that is considered obscene in public) and 509-34 (insulting modesty or causing sexual harassment) of the Pakistan Penal Code, according to Abbottabad District Police Officer Umar Tufail.
Since the crime happened within the boundaries of the Jinnah Abad police post, Head Constable Murad Ali’s allegation led to the filing of a formal complaint.
According to the FIR, the woman posted a picture of the automobile with two people seated inside on her Facebook account. According to the FIR, “the suspects called the victim to sit with them in the car and used derogatory language for her in public.”
According to DPO Abbottabad, both suspects have been placed under arrest and are currently being questioned further.
An inquiry committee was established by Woman University Mardan Vice-Chancellor Prof. Safia Ahmad last month to look into a sexual harassment allegation that purportedly happened on the university’s Bashkhali campus a few days ago.
The eight-member committee was established after students demonstrated and boycotted classes against the varsity’s security officer for his suspected involvement in the harassment case, according to Hazrat Bilal, the vice-chancellor’s public relations officer.
