According to police on Tuesday, an unidentified shooter in Karachi’s Baldia Town killed a 65-year-old former union council (UC) chairman.
At 6:27 a.m., an unidentified suspect shot and killed Haji Amanullah Afridi close to his home, according to Syed Asad Raza, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police South, who spoke to Dawn.com.
The body was moved to the civil hospital, according to a statement released today by the Edhi rescue service.
Raza added, “The deceased was elected as the UC chairman of Abidabad as an independent candidate and had previously been active at the local level in the social and political circles of Baldia Town, Keamari.”
“A young man wearing a shalwar kameez is seen following and firing on the victim from behind at approximately 6:27am,” the official stated, adding that police are actively investigating the matter and have so far collected CCTV footage of the scene.
“It is confirmed by other CCTV footage that [the] attacker was waiting for the victim on the street corner for quite some time,” he added.
“Geofencing of the area is being conducted to help ascertain [the] identity of the assailant,” he added, adding that police had found three empty shot casings from the crime site.
The spokesman said a probe was in progress, but local police thought the crime entailed personal hatred.
