According to AFP, the Israeli army has said that it has begun a fresh ground attack east of Gaza City in an effort to broaden the security zone it has established inside Palestinian territory.
“To increase the security zone, troops have started ground operations in the northern Gazan area of Shujaiya over the last few hours,” the military stated in a statement.
“The troops destroyed Hamas terrorist infrastructure, including a command and control center that allowed Hamas terrorists to organize and carry out terror attacks, and killed a large number of terrorists,” the statement continued.
“For the safety of civilians, troops are permitting their evacuation from the combat zone via designated routes both during and before the activity.”
Israeli drone strikes Rafah, killing
According to Al Jazeera, an Israeli drone strike on the northeastern region of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip killed a man and his wife.
Furthermore, the correspondent reported that the Israeli army shelled displaced civilians in Gaza City’s Shujayea neighborhood, injuring multiple Palestinians.
Hamas member killed by Israeli strike on Lebanon: Palestinian official
According to a Palestinian official, a member of the Palestinian fighter group Hamas was killed by an Israeli drone strike on the port city of Sidon, Lebanon, according to AFP.
According to the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, the official and his adult son and daughter were murdered in the strike on an apartment in a residential sector of the city.
Following the strike, which severely damaged the apartment complex and nearby structures and prompted panic in the heavily populated neighborhood, an AFP correspondent observed the fourth-floor unit still on fire.
At least three persons were killed in the 3:45 a.m. (05:45 a.m. PKT) strike on Sidon, according to Lebanese official media.
