This Eid ul-Adha, Pakistani cinemas are buzzing with excitement as two major local film releases, Love Guru and Deemak, hit the big screens alongside a few international titles.
Love Guru
Love Guru, starring Humayun Saeed and Mahira Khan, is a romantic comedy and marks the first mega-budget, star-studded Pakistani film since The Legend of Maula Jatt.

While the trailer keeps much of the plot under wraps, it hints at Humayun Saeed playing a flirtatious man who, after being entrusted with a serious responsibility by Mahira Khan’s father (played by Javed Sheikh), finds himself falling in love for real.
Shot in London, the film features Mahira Khan as an artistic and bold young woman, while Humayun’s character is depicted as a charming womanizer.

Written by Vasay Chaudhry and directed by Nadeem Baig, the film is produced by Humayun Saeed and others, under the banner of ARY Films. With a blend of romance, Pashto and Punjabi humor, the film aims to deliver wholesome entertainment.
Deemak
Deemak is a horror-comedy featuring a powerhouse cast including Sonia Hussyn, Faysal Quraishi, Samina Peerzada, Bushra Ansari, Javed Sheikh, and Saman Ansari.

Directed by Rafay Rashdi and produced by Syed Murad Ali, the film’s trailer offers eerie visuals and emotional undertones, hinting at a complex story revolving around Faysal Quraishi, his wife (played by Sonia Hussyn), and his mother (Samina Peerzada).

Though the plot remains somewhat mysterious, early reactions suggest a mix of supernatural horror with strong family drama.
International Releases
In addition to the Pakistani titles, a few international films have also been released, including Turkey’s horror flick Sijjin 8 and Indonesian thriller Jin 3.
It’s worth noting that Indian films have been banned from Eid screenings this year in a move aimed at supporting the local cinema industry.
Box Office Expectations
With both Love Guru and Deemak making waves, a fierce box office competition is anticipated. However, early buzz suggests that Love Guru might outperform Deemak commercially.
At the film’s premiere on June 5 in Karachi, Humayun Saeed revealed that Love Guru is his most expensive film to date, costing over Rs. 250 million, and he hopes it will cross the Rs. 1 billion mark in box office revenue.
The Eid release has reinvigorated excitement among cinema-goers, many of whom are flocking to theaters to experience fresh Pakistani content on the big screen after a long break.
