Actress and writer Mira Sethi has said that the slogan ‘Mera Jism Meri Marzi’ does not promote vulgarity but rather clarifies and advocates for women’s rights.
Speaking at a recent event, Mira Sethi explained the meaning behind the much-debated slogan.
She stated that every year when the Aurat March (Women’s March) is held, this slogan sparks fresh controversy and debate.
According to Mira Sethi, the slogan is often misunderstood and deliberately misrepresented.
She emphasized that this slogan is neither a promotion of obscenity nor a message of rebellion. Rather, it represents a woman’s right to bodily autonomy and her ability to make decisions about her own life.
Mira Sethi clarified that “Mera Jism Meri Marzi” is fundamentally about consent, autonomy, and freedom from violence.
She added that the slogan means women should have the right to say “no”, and full control over matters such as marriage, childbirth, and personal safety.
She further said that conservative elements of society often distort this message, creating the false impression that women are challenging social values, whereas in reality, the slogan advocates for basic human rights.
