New York, May 22, 2025: Pakistani superstar Mahira Khan recently met with Oneja Andrew Robinson, the American woman who made headlines last year after traveling to Karachi in pursuit of love. A video of their encounter has gone viral on social media, capturing a warm and light-hearted exchange between the two.
The meeting took place in the United States, where Mahira Khan is currently promoting her upcoming film “Love Guru.” During the interaction, Oneja fondly recalled her time in Pakistan, specifically mentioning Inspector Shabana a Pakistani police officer who became her friend during her stay. In response, Mahira cheerfully said, “Hello, Shabana!” in a playful shout-out.
Oneja also reminisced about Karachi’s famous chicken biryani, expressing her continued love for the local cuisine.
The Viral Love Story
Oneja Robinson, a resident of New York, first caught public attention in October 2024 when she arrived in Karachi on a one-month tourist visa. She had traveled to Pakistan to meet 19-year-old Nidal Memon, a resident of Karachi’s Garden area, whom she had reportedly fallen in love with online.
Although Nidal was reportedly ready to marry her, his family opposed the relationship. When Oneja’s visa expired in November, she refused to leave Pakistan and ended up living in unstable conditions, often without a fixed place to stay.
A Series of Dramatic Events
In mid-January, Oneja attempted to enter Karachi airport without valid travel documents and was stopped by security forces. She was handed over to airport police. Eventually, with the intervention of the Governor of Sindh and the help of a local welfare organization, she was granted a 15-day exit permit and provided a return ticket to the U.S.
However, when she reached the airport on January 29 and completed all travel formalities, she suddenly refused to board the flight, claiming the airline staff were forcing her to leave. As a result, she was offloaded.
In the following days, she was seen outside the home of her alleged Pakistani friend in the Garden area and was later given temporary shelter by a welfare organization. During this time, her health deteriorated and she was admitted to Jinnah Hospital, where doctors diagnosed her with bipolar disorder.
After receiving medical treatment and being declared fit to travel by a five-member medical board, Oneja finally returned to the United States in February 2025 nearly 120 days after arriving in Pakistan.
A Cultural Connection
Her emotional story has resonated with many, not only for its drama but also for the cultural bridges it highlighted. Oneja’s affection for Pakistan, despite the challenges she faced, has turned her into an unlikely internet sensation.
Her recent meeting with Mahira Khan added a new chapter to her journey, symbolizing a connection between personal stories of love and the broader cultural impact of Pakistani celebrities abroad.
