Lahore: In a significant development in the high-profile honey trap case involving renowned playwright Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar, a Lahore anti-terrorism court has sentenced three accused, including the prime suspect Amna Urooj, to seven years in prison each.
The verdict was announced by Judge Arshad Javed of the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC), who found Amna Urooj, Mamnoon Haider, and Zeeshan guilty of blackmailing, abducting, and assaulting the drama writer. Other co-accused in the case were acquitted, while one suspect remains out on bail.
According to the case file, Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar was allegedly abducted and physically assaulted on July 15, 2024, by the accused. A formal FIR was registered on July 21, 2024, at Sundar Police Station in Lahore, under kidnapping and terrorism charges.
Following the complaint, Lahore police arrested the suspects, including Amna Urooj, who was later revealed to have leaked inappropriate videos involving the victim, further complicating the case. This led to additional charges and arrests.
The trial of the 11 accused began in August 2024, with 17 witnesses testifying during the proceedings. Witnesses included Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar himself, his acquaintances, police personnel, and bank staff.
In December 2024, the court formally charged 12 individuals, including Amna Urooj, based on the evidence presented during the investigation.
This judgment marks a significant moment in a case that stirred public interest and highlighted the growing concerns around digital blackmail and organized honey trap schemes.
