ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Monday stepped up efforts to ensure timely distribution of financial assistance under the Prime Minister’s Ramazan Relief Package 2026, directing banks and payment service providers to fast-track account activation and fund transfers ahead of the holy month.
The progress review was conducted at a high-level meeting chaired by the Federal Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety, with senior representatives of partner financial institutions and the State Bank of Pakistan in attendance, an official statement said.
During the meeting, the minister underscored the urgency of completing large-scale account opening and activation, stressing that all pending cases must be processed without delay. He instructed banks and digital payment providers to accelerate disbursements so that eligible beneficiaries receive funds well before Ramazan begins.
Financial institutions briefed the participants on progress made in opening new accounts, reactivating dormant ones, and facilitating payments through both cash and digital channels. Commercial banks, microfinance institutions, and fintech partners assured the government of their full cooperation during the implementation phase of the relief package.
The representative of the State Bank informed the meeting that awareness flyers regarding ATM usage were being displayed at partner institutions to guide beneficiaries on how to withdraw funds conveniently. To prevent administrative bottlenecks, the minister directed that allocated funds be transferred promptly to participating institutions and instructed them to submit daily progress reports to the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety.
According to the statement, daily monitoring will enhance transparency and allow real-time oversight of disbursements across the country.
Concluding the meeting, the minister approved all directives for immediate implementation and reiterated the government’s commitment to delivering timely and dignified assistance to deserving families during Ramazan. He also appreciated the proactive role of the banking sector and the central bank, noting that close coordination remains essential to ensure smooth and uninterrupted distribution nationwide.
