According to AFP, Israel’s military has increased ground operations throughout Gaza after claiming to have intercepted missiles from Yemen and Hamas claiming to have fired rockets in the direction of Tel Aviv.
Hamas’ rocket firing was its first military reaction to the rising number of civilian deaths brought on by Israel’s restart of ground operations and aerial bombing in Gaza this week.
According to the military, troops have started “conducting ground activity” in the Shabura neighborhood of Rafah, the southernmost city in Gaza that is close to the Egyptian border.
The military said in a statement that “troops are continuing ground activity in northern and central Gaza” and that “the troops dismantled … terrorist infrastructure as part of the activity.”
According to local media cited by Al Jazeera, Israel also attacked the Zeitoun neighborhood of Gaza City and Rafah and Khan Younis in the southern part of the beleaguered territory.

Israeli strikes on Gaza are denounced by Pakistan’s UN envoy.
According to state media Radio Pakistan, Pakistan’s ambassador to the UN, Munir Akram, has “strongly condemned” the return of Israeli strikes on Gaza and the “indiscriminate killing of Palestinian civilians through bombardments, airstrikes, and artillery fire.”
He stressed that justice and human rights cannot be enforced selectively and encouraged the international community to not overlook the “struggle of the Palestinian people” during the UN Security Council briefing on the Middle East.
In order to promote the peaceful resolution of the Palestinian issue and carry out the two-state solution, he further emphasized the importance of the next summit between France and Saudi Arabia.
