Sindh government has announced a public holiday for all educational institutions across the province on March 22 to observe Youm-e-Ali.
According to the School Education Department, all public and private schools will remain closed to mark the solemn occasion.
Youm-e-Ali, observed on 21st Ramazan, commemorates the martyrdom of Hazrat Ali ibn Abi Talib, the fourth caliph of Islam. He sustained fatal injuries in an attack by Ibn Muljim, a Kharijite dissident, on 19th Ramazan 40 AH (661 CE) while heading for Fajr prayer in Kufa, Iraq. He attained martyrdom on 21st Ramazan.
The day is observed across the country with great devotion and reverence.
