According to the military’s media wing, security forces in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa killed eight terrorists during two different operations on Tuesday.
“On 12-13 January 2025, eight Khwarij were sent to hell in two separate engagements in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province,” according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
In the Tank District, the security forces carried out an intelligence-based operation. According to the statement, “six Khwarij were sent to hell after the troops successfully engaged the terrorists at their location.”
In the Khyber District’s Tirah Valley, another incident occurred where the military “successfully neutralized two terrorists.”
“[The] security forces of Pakistan are determined to wipe out the menace of terrorism from the country,” the ISPR added, adding that sanitization operations were underway to eradicate any remaining militants.
Through a formal announcement in July, the government named the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) as Fitna al Khawarij and ordered all organizations to refer to those responsible for terrorist attacks on Pakistan as khariji, or outcasts.
Nine terrorists were slain in two different operations in the North Waziristan district on Sunday, according to the ISPR.
Terrorism has increased recently in Pakistan, particularly in KP and Balochistan.
Since the Tehreek-i-Taliban was outlawed, there has been a rise in terrorist acts. In 2022, Pakistan violated a tenuous ceasefire agreement with the government.
According to a 2024 report released by the Center for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) think-tank, 2024 proved to be the deadliest year for Pakistan’s military and civil security forces in a decade, with at least 685 security forces members killed in 444 terror attacks.
Security forces carried out 59,775 operations last year, killing 925 terrorists and martyring 383 officers and troops, according to DG ISPR.
