Drake is taking legal action against Universal Music Group and Spotify, alleging they conspired to inflate the popularity of Kendrick Lamar’s diss track ‘Not Like Us.’
In a petition filed in New York, Drake’s company claims Universal used bots, influencers, and pay-to-play deals to manipulate streaming numbers. The track smashed records with 81.2 million streams in one week and became the most-streamed diss track on Spotify. However, Drake’s lawyers argue the success was artificially engineered to benefit Universal, which owns both artists’ labels.
The filing also accuses Universal of cutting royalty rates for ‘Not Like Us’ in exchange for Spotify promoting the track—even showing it to users searching for unrelated music. Additionally, Apple’s Siri allegedly redirected users asking for Drake’s songs to Lamar’s diss track.
Universal denies the allegations, calling them “absurd,” while Spotify and Lamar have not commented. Drake’s legal team argues the “scheme” has caused him significant financial harm, citing Universal’s refusal to take accountability and alleged efforts to cover their tracks by firing employees perceived as loyal to Drake.
This feud follows ‘Not Like Us’ breaking records, earning Grammy nods, and cementing Lamar’s dominance during their heated rivalry. Meanwhile, Drake’s legal team is seeking to preserve documents and evidence for potential future lawsuits.
